Picnic is a great place to get not only lunch, but your morning coffee as well. Filled rolls/sandwiches and salads made on the day, with the salads changing every week, as well as soup. The coffee is excellent, their homemade cakes are delicious and the staff are brilliant.

James Dunford replied over 4 years agoZero Degrees on Gun Street is a very nice Italian-style restaurant. It has a wood-burn oven for doing pizzas, of which there are many excellent and varied toppings, from seafood to goats cheese & caramelised pear to hoi sin duck. They also do an excellent mussels dish in a choice of different sauces. Zeros also has its own micro brewery offering a selection of five or so excellent ales that change regularly. Their wheat beer is fantastic, as are the fruity ones such as raspberry or mango.

Will Goring replied over 3 years agoSweeney and Todd is a Reading institution. They serve excellent home-made pies at very reasonable prices. The only person I wouldn't recommend it to is someone who's allergic to pastry!

Will Goring replied over 3 years agoThe Oakford Social Club over the road from the Train Station is a pub, but serves excellent food. It can be a bit 'pubby' for eating in the evenings, especially at weekends, but at lunchtimes it's great for a sit-down nosh. As far as I can tell, all food is prepared fresh on the premises, and is uniformly fantastic. Great atmosphere too.
Try the burgers. Seriously.
