You can't go far wrong with The Big Bang in Jericho. Reasonably priced award winning bangers and mash. Nice selection of local beers too with recommendations for the best beer/sausage combination.

The Head of the River is especially nice in the summer when you can get good traditional food and sop up at the bar while watching the punts and sweep-oars go by - even stay the night, all at a very reasonable price.

The Mission Mexican Grill, which is a new burrito bar on St Michael's Street, is fantastic - with the added advantage of being so substantial you will hardly want any dinner that evening. You can also buy a beer to go with it, which is nice.

I would recommend going to the covered market - it's full of lots of cheap places to have lunch, both to eat in and take away. My favourite to eat in is Georgina's (above Brothers) and to take away is Fasta Pasta.

The only downside is the covered market is closed on Sunday.

A good sandwich shop in Oxford (take away only) is Olives, 42 High St, Oxford, Oxfordshire, OX1 4AP

They'll make up a sandwich for you with your choice of ingredient for about £3.50, with a wide choice of salad, cheese and meat fillings. It also sells a variety of treats imported from France.

Even sandwiches & things are fairly expensive in Oxford, but I'd recommend David Johns', one of the butchers in the middle of the Covered Market -- they do huge pasties for £1.95, as well as a range of pies, hams, sausage rolls, &c. Incidentally, they also provide sausages for The Big Bang, mentioned above.
