The central shopping area has a wide variety of shops in a strip mall about a kilometre long, all under cover. Quite pleasant although it tends to get very crowded at weekends and around Christmas. There is a large open area opposite the entrance to John Lewis that often has specialised markets such as French food, or books. Don't bother to try and find something to eat, as apart from the usual burger joints there is very little to be had in the shopping area itself.

Supermarkets and hypermarkets are available in abundance if you have transport, but they are not located in any central area.

Otherwise, Milton Keynes is best avoided for shopping and one of the little towns on the outskirts is much more pleasant. Try Stony Stratford (still technically Milton Keynes), a beautiful little market town to the north west with a fine High Street with a good variety of shops and place to eat.
