Free WiFi at Cornerhouse, an art+film centre with a nice cafe. Good shows + screenings http://www.cornerhouse.org/

alot of the bars in Canal street have free wi-fi, usually just have to ask at the bar to see if any password to get online, Eden and Taurus are two place I know that have it

McDonald's of course. Free wi-fi there! At least 3 in the city centre - at St. Ann's Square, The Arndale Centre, and Portland Street.
