Rising Sun Inn - Scrummy simple bar food, rustic charm, thatched roof, sea view, great cider on tap. Stoke up here before walking to Watersmeet for your cream tea. You can stay here too.

Walk to Watersmeet from Lynmouth to earn your cream tea. Beautiful tea garden overlooking waterfalls, with your teas served from an old fishing lodge. The cream teas are excellent but the pies and other cakes looked pretty fine too. So lovely on a sunny day. Not great for bad weather as there aren't any tables under cover. Lots of lovely walks in the area - ask at the shop for a leaflet.

You can't say you've been to Lynton or Lynmouth if you haven't ridden the cliff railway. Its an amazing water-powered lift that whisks you up the cliff in only a few minutes. It's been hauling cream-tea-stuffed tourists up the hill since 1888 and its still working pretty well. It certainly beats walking up - I used to come to Lynton every year when I was a kid and I have tried both methods. Trust me - the views are even better if you aren't worrying that you've done yourself a mischief hiking up on foot. The railway claims zero carbon emissions so its completely guilt free.
