Guest Quarters on Gracechurch -- it's a business travelers 'club' hotel so you can get great deals on weekends, quite often. The Hoxton near Old Street Station -- lots of great food in Hackney.

Base2Stay in Kensington! Semi-apartment style (has a mini-kitchen) makes eating in easy... Perfectly located between Earls Court tube or Gloucester Rd tube stations.

I love the Montagu Place (http://www.montagu-place.co.uk/). It is a design hotel in the heart of Marylebone with acceptable prices. Beautiful and pleasant.

For business travel, I prefer the Club Quarters (http://www.clubquarters.com/) in Trafalgar Sq. Very central and close to the tube, lots of food options, and for London, relatively inexpensive. Oh, and free wifi. But don't expect anything fancy.

My Hotel Bloomsbury. Literally steps from the office, decent rates, modern/contemporary decor.

If you want a reasonable room for a few nights or you want to stay for a week or so, there is an accomodation place very close to me in Stockwell, South London with a very nice small gym attached. Very well-located from the centre of London, only 23 miles away and very safe. You can see the details at www.londonhorizons.com

For the second time I stayed at the Strand Palace Hotel on The Strand (obviously) in the heart of London. Walking distance to Downing Street and Trefalgar Square. Very close to Embankment Station on the Circle Line (Underground Yellow one). Walk from the Embankment to the Strand (150 metres) and turn right - along the strand. It's there - across the street less than 300 metres - opposite the legendary pub The Coal Hole.

Find the Strand Palace here: http://www.strandpalacehotel.co.uk/

If your business is in the lower western parts of London, I recommend the Copthorne in the Chelsea Stadium. New, nice, clean, close to Fulham Broadway tube station.

the new Novotel behind Paddington station is nice and affordable. They have a fitness room and swimming pool, and a 4 minute walk from the trains. What's more, they'll check you in on a Mac.

I love St. Martin's Lane: http://www.stmartinslane.com/. It's chic, fun and located in a great neighborhood. The concierge was also fantastic on my last stay. A bit on the high end of prices but well worth it. The only thing I was disappointed by was there lack of a spa.

The City Inn is the place I'd choose most of all, since it's the place I end up most often through work. It lies down the river from Westminster (no close underground really), next to MI5's headquarters, and there's a Pizza Express next door if you don't want the expensive hotel food. Wonderful breakfast, if you can get it included in your rate.

The Thistle Hotel at Marble Arch is by far the one that I recommend to friends the most -- it's affordable and the location puts you right where all the Oxford Street action starts. It does give you a business hotel feel when you step inside, but the rooms are actually decent (the twin rooms are delightfully pleasant) and Selfridges is literally less than a minute's walk away.

The nearest tube station is Marble Arch, and if you head across the junction past the arch itself you'll be at one of Hyde Park's corners. Stroll down Park Lane and you'll be in the midst of Mayfair's exclusiveness, and right at the door of Buckingham Palace.
