If you can go to 1 place on a short trip to London then go to the Tate Modern. I never skip it.

Superb place if you want to catch some modern art. The directions from Southwark tube station are clearly (and creatively) signposted and especially if you take the walk during the dark, you'll meet a few surprises.

There's a good selection of art on display in the free sections, but the paid sections, although appearing nice, we're a little steep on the price.

The shops full of stylish schwag too if that floats your boat.

For contemporary art, there is no place like the Tate. Usually crowded during the day, try to go when the gallery is open late. People thin out and you really have a better opportunity to enjoy the art.

If you need a meeting spot in central London, become a member of the Tate Modern - amazing views, busy but not full and a great place to impress colleagues.

If there is one place to relax in London its Tate Modern's Rothko Room. One room dedicated to the late great Polish born New Yorker. The massive paintings are meditative and with specially dimmed lighting you will see movement slowed and chatting cut off. Magical!!!
