Emma Rouse-Deane replied over 2 years agoThis was built in 1980 at the confluence of the River Hull and the Humber Estuary. It protects the city against tidal surges and flooding, by being lowered for tides in excess of 4.6 metres.
It is 202 tonnes of steel and takes approximately 30 minutes to lower, or to rise.
