The Mosque kitchen does huge plates of cheap grub - meat and veggie curry, naan, rice and the rest. Takeaway or eat on the tables outside - there's some protection from the elements but it can still be pretty cold.

Try The Dogs. Interesting food at reasonable prices. Not as low as the Mosque kitchen, but nevertheless...

The Filmhouse cafe/bar is a good option near the centre of town and they serve all day until 10pm. Menu and pricing on the website.

Wellington Coffee, on the corner of George Street and Hanover Street, does a really delicious pannini, and their coffee is also superb.

Piemaker on South Bridge is a take-away for meat pies, vegetarian pies, sweet pies...all kinds. My favourites are the steak pie and steak chilli mince. Rich and flavourful fillings with flaky crusts, all freshly baked in the shop. They can heat them up for you to eat right away, or you can buy a batch to take home and microwave later.

Cafe Marlayne. Either in Thistle Street or Fishmarket Close.

There is a tattie shop on cockburn street that has totally veggie and vegan fillings - the portions are large and tasty.

I recently had a great Mug full of Lamb stew at Teuchters at 26 William st, near the West End of Princes St. Goes well with oatcakes and a bit of IPA.
