    Food in Cardiff Bay

There's a load of new restaurants springing up in the Bay area, but for some special home-cooked Welsh food go to Mimosa. Also, seek out the old pubs further back from the waterfront like the Packet or The Bute Dock for real, good-value drinks!

Awful(ly good) fry ups - hit Ramones

Massive, deep fried breakfasts in the 'University Quarter' near Salisbury Road in Cathays.

The sculpted garden in the back (ask, or wander down the left hand corridor) is a thing to behold - dove coops, hanging baskets makes quite a jarring juxtaposition to laden greasy plates.

I love it (but can only withstand that much oil c. twice a year).

The Vegatarian Food Cafe on Penarth Road is meant to be amazing. http://www.vegetarianfoodstudio.co.uk/

Definitely avoid the Bay if you can, as a rule everything there is overrated, overpriced, and generally pretty disappointing.

I second the suggestion of Vegetarian Food Studio, it is superb even for non-veggies like myself. Not your average Indian! Canteen on Clifton Street (on Clifton Street, funnily enough) is another good place for vegetarians that also caters for meat eaters.

Tenkaichi on City Road is great if you like sushi, and I've heard good things about Ichiban on Albany Road too.

Madame Fromage in the Castle Arcade is a great deli that sells the best baguettes in Cardiff without question. Expect to wait for it, but it's worth the wait, and worth every penny of the seemingly expensive price.

There's a Chinese Buffet Restaurant in Atlantic Wharf which is good. Otherwise stay away from the Bay. The Thai Restaurant on Churchill Way or Broadway are both fine. The Maenllwydd Inn in Rudry just outside Cardiff is fab too.

Great mixed salads. Upstairs seating with view over the Oval basin. Kemi runs it and owns it - she's a star
