    Ikon Gallery & Restaurant

If you have a bit of spare time, make sure to head over to the Ikon in Brindleyplace (just off Broad Street).

It's a great contemporary art gallery and also contains one of the best restaurants in Birmingham (it's Spanish tapas). Highly recommended

    Bacchus Bar

Bacchus is a hidden underground pub, decked out like a strange medieval manor.

As you come out of the Palisades onto new street, head away from Bullring and towards the Square. Just after Waterstones, you'll see a little entrance for the Burlington Arcade, head down two flights of stairs and you'll find Baccus.

For splurging, Simpsons in Edgbaston serves very good French food with the kind of service you only find at Michelin star restaurants - which it is.

Shogun sushi restaurant in the basement of the Mailbox is good. £10 flat fee after 6pm weekdays (not £ per-plate). It's always jammed full of Japanese people whenever I go, which I take as a Good Thing.

Went to the Plough pub on a Friday evening with a group of 20. Not the cheapest place to eat but the pizzas were varied, tasty and definitely filling. Service was also good with our group being served within twenty minutes while the place was buzzing.
