Fraser Speirs replied over 2 years agoAberfoyle Golf Club has a fairly generic but decent and, unusually for the area, not-over-priced restaurant. The views over the golf course are quite relaxing. It also appears to be a little off the beaten path, and tour buses are unlikely to pull up and disgorge sixty pensioners.

Fraser Speirs replied over 2 years agoThis is about the only place to get a moderately decent cup of coffee in Aberfoyle. They serve Costa, but not very well. The filter coffee will be disasterous - avoid.
The centre, in general, has the benefit of a large, free, car park but as a result is very popular with tourists. The centre mostly sells tartan-coloured junk but the food is of acceptable quality.
There is a permanent Birds of Prey display at the entrance, as well as occasional sheepdog demonstrations which, inexplicably, seem to involve one dog and a number of ducks.
As with the rest of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park area, the economy of Aberfoyle is entirely devoted to solving the "So You Have Too Much Money?" problem.

Fraser Speirs replied over 2 years agoA place for stunning views and, in common with most establishments in the surrounding area, stunningly bad and overpriced food. Avoid eating here, but take your kids and let them play.
There's also a "Go Ape" adventure facility here.

Fraser Speirs replied over 2 years agoLoch Katrine is a freshwater loch that is used as a reservoir to provide drinking water to the Glasgow area. The steamship SS Sir Walter Scott provides a very enjoyable sail on the loch. There are also bike hire facilities and a restaurant.

Fraser Speirs replied over 2 years agoAnother fairly-generic, slightly over-priced Trossachs feeding hole. Has pavement tables but, in Scotland, that's the smoking section. Situated right on a tight bend where 65-seater luxury coaches duel with Land Rovers and trailers, it's not a quiet spot.

Fraser Speirs replied over 2 years agoThe Clachan Hotel's restaurant is incongruously decorated with the acoutrements of old-fashioned filmmaking. The menu is absolutely generic cuisine and is served in small portions at stunningly expensive prices. My small £2 glass of Diet Coke was poured from a 2-Litre bottle.
Highly recommended to anorexic millionaires. The rest of us might want to sneak in a sandwich or two.
