A lovely cafe/bar in Montmartre. If you fancy a quiet breakfast or lunch it's great; in the evenings, it's busier and noisier, but that probably suits others too. They claim to have free-with-drinks wifi, but I think you need to ask for a password. Certainly worth dropping into if you're in the area.

Livia Iacolare replied over 3 years agoBar Des Templiers
A place filled with a masonic atmosphere and mysterious kitsch objects like a giant statue of Jeanne d'Arc. I went there the first time with a stranger I met near the Centre Pompidou, who told me weird stories about crusaders and kings. Beer is very good. It's right in front of the Saint Jacq tower.

Alison Black replied over 3 years agoFast Food, Paris Style
Try Cojean, all over the centre of Paris (see web site for listing of 12 branches). If you don't have time for a traditional brasserie lunch this is a French (fresher, more chic) alternative to Pret a Manger. The branch I've tried is on Rue Mathurins. Bursting to the seams at lunch but still seems possible to find a table (also take-away). Organic, veggie, lactose free all available.

Petri-Jukka Salo replied over 3 years agohave a dinner as a local in Paris
If you want to have a down to earth "local" dinner in a very simple, tourist free restaurant, try "Au Bon Coin". (corner of rue de Cloys and rue Montcalm) The menu changes every day -uncomplicated country food. The restaurant buys their wine directly from small producers so you'll get wines you don't normally find from shops and restaurants. The restaurant has also a small "delicatesse" shop next door selling regional products from small producers. Come around 8 - 8.30 pm as later the restaurant is full. Not open on Saturday evenings or Sundays. And for those who know (or want to) me, I live on the opposite side of the street - great place for an aperitif ; P

A bar/bistrot which after 11 or so by opening a metal gate to their cellar transforms into a crazy Jewish club. They only play Hava Nagila (about every second song) and Edith Piaf and people sometimes party so hard that the furniture comes apart.

Jo Roach replied over 2 years agoFor Sunday brunch, La Loir dans la Theiere in the Marais. get there early and expect to queue. Its worth it: the atmos is great, walls covered in old film posters, sofas, big tables. The most important thing: the food is outrageously good. Marcus Grönros replied over 2 years agoAu Dernier Metro just opposite Dupleix metro station in the 15th is one of my favourite places for a 'light' salad or omelet in Paris. The salads are actually quite meaty with ham, potatoes, eggs, etc. and the omelets are made with 4 eggs, so you will not go hungry.
Price wise quite ok, the salads are approx €11 and the ham & cheese omelet €6.50. The beer is expensive (as in most places in Paris), 4.20 for a small Hoegaarden, but the wine much cheaper, €12 for a 50cl carafe.
Busy resto/bar in the evening, lunch time it is easier to just arrive and be sure to get a table. Highly recommended if you like basque type food and enjoy a busy atmosphere.

Omid Tavallai replied over 2 years agoDespite being part of a big chain (the original in Brussels is, however, quite charming) Léon is a reliable spot to get quality moules-frites (mussels & fries) at a reasonable price. They even have a decent beer selection, which is a nice surprise for Paris.

Omid Tavallai replied over 2 years agoYou'll be tempted by its historical Les Halles location and reasonably priced formules (set menus), but likely leave unsatisfied. While the food is decent enough and the service full of old school charm, it simply doesn't live up to its old reputation as a Les Halles institution for late night gluttony. Likely because it's long been bought out by a brasserie chain.
