    Francotte Brasserie

Typical small restaurant with tasty local fare, friendly service, and a great wine list. Located on the small plaza in front of the Theater Celestins, between Place Jacobins and the Soane River. A lovely spot, all around.

This tip has the address "Place des Celestins 8"

The Brasserie at Leon de Lyon is excellent. Delicious food and perfect service - old style. We spent 50 Euros per head, including fab wine, but they have a set menu for 28 Euros for three courses - very good value.

    1 rue Pléney 69001 LYON

    Tél : +33 (0)4 72 10 11 11 - ask for the Brasserie, as the main restaurant is Michelin-starred and more expensive.

This place is ENORMOUS, brightly lit, very festive & loud, like a German beer hall done in marble. They have good beer, good sausages, but the choucroute was a bit soggy and the creme brulee a bit scrambled-eggy. Service is VERY fast. The crowd suggests it must be in all the (old folks) tourist books.

I spent the better part of the year between 2005 and 2006 in Lyon, supposedly the gastronomical capital of France. Well, let me just say that Lyonnais food left much to be desired. That’s probably why my favorite restaurant, apart from an Indian place and a Pakistani place, was a Breton mussels and crêpe house called L’Eau Salée.
