If you fancy a day at the beach, want to avoid the masses and don't want to go too far: head up the coast to Ocata beach area, where the locals also hang out. 'Cercania' trains take 20 mins from Placa Catalunya, and once you get to seaside the route itself is quite pretty. The whole line of the beach is dotted with nice chirinquitos for refreshments, and main areas have amenities such as toilets and showers.

Paella in Barceloneta, Sanday or Saturday --will be less crowded--. Where?? good question, difficult answer. There are too many restaurants for guiris (foreigners). Kaiku at Plaza del Mar is a unpayable tip. Book in advance (google kaiku barcelona) since local people like me ;) will try to go first.

If you are coming in mid-late August there is nothing better than the Fiesta Major de Gracia. A week-long street party (at night from around 10pm-3am, but with activities during the day), Thursday-Wednesday, you will see whole streets in fancy dress, hear more music than is on your ipod, and have children dressed as devils run at you with firecrackers. An amazing spectacle.

Go to La Boqueria, market at Las Ramblas or go to the beach. A walk along Las Ramblas so see all the esplendid buildings and lamps. Go to the Park Guell, so beautiful. In Barcelona there are so many things to do and to see. Is a splendid city.

Sunday are the day to go to the Barceloneta area. Try Los Maños restaurant, which is well-known in the area, but you'll need to get there early to get in (ie 1pm).
