    Food availability on Sunday night

If you arrive on Sunday evening and are not staying in the city centre (I was staying in Hellerup) just be aware that all the restaurants (including those in hotels) are closed by 21:00. I ended up having to eat peanuts from the minibar for my evening meal

    Traditional Danish and Japanese Restaurant

I ate at Restaurant Pederoxe (Grabrodretorv 11) and at "Sushi and Sticks." Both were very nice. Both are relatively close to the Norreport subway/train station.

Caviar and other good seafood at Kastrup

Caviar House and Prunier at Kastrup airport is the reason why I always go to Kastrup airport an hour earlier. Kastrup is on my list of favorite airports and Caviar House & Prunier here is certainly one of the best seafood bars. The service is good, the wine is good, the food is good. Definitely recommended!

    Laundromat Café

Located in Nørrebro, this is the favorite hangout of Copenhagen's 'digerati'. This is a good place for breakfast or brunch, or just a coffee. There's free WiFi and you can do your laundry if you need to. (There is a Laundromat Café in Østerbro as well, which I have not been to.)

    Kaffeplantagen

In Nørrebro on the charming Sankt Hans Torv, this is without a doubt the best coffee in town. The café's baristi prepare your drink with a lot of care. Great place to start the day. (They do traditional Danish breakfasts as well.) Can get crowded, but you can always have your coffee to go.

Reef and Beef - Australian wines and meat

Good meat and good wines in Reef and Beef, near the Radhuspladsen. Facing The Square hotel, it's the street on the left of the hotel. After 50 meters it's on your right.

I had the Wagyue (or something that's spelled more or less like this) beef last time and that was great.

    Absolut Icebar

The icebar is pretty cool if you've never been to one before. That said, the drinks are expensive and your only options are some premixed sugar with various types of Absolut vodka. If Virgin ran the place it would be much more full of win.

Kaffe Kalaset - fantastic place for brunch / lunch / hanging out

This is a splendid place. Don't go if you're in a hurry. Do go if you want big, lovely food, brilliantly eccentric decor (reel to reel tape recorders stuck to the walls) and excellent coffee. Pictures here

Halvandet - cool beach bar in the docks north of the Opera

A very cool (very MTV!) place to hang out - but definitely one for the summer months. It gets a lot quieter (and colder) after dark even on hot days. And definitely the coolest way to get there is a water taxi from Nyhavn!

    Delicious Restaurant Alsace

This elegant French restaurant displays an understated pride in its excellent presentation and top-quality fine cuisine and wine.

Sheltered from the bustle of Stroget, Copenhagen City and masses of sandled tourists, it sits off Pilestreade in a cosy courtyard with a quaint indoor dining room, as well as a lovely shaded outdoor area.

Reasonably priced for Copenhagen, it has set 3-5 course menus; or you can order each course separately.

Notable mentions were the Fois Gras Terrine, delicate Dover Sole, and supmtuous Mille Feuille and/or Strawberries Romanoff...

    Laundromat Café

The Cafe opens at 8 in the morning, but if you need to meet a firend for breakfast before heading of to an other appointment. Do not go for the Laundromat Café. Only of you have all morning to waite for the cheef to meet in and the kitchen to be opned and pots to be heated, bread to be cut and so on it is a good choise, but then it is also good.

    Famo 51: una osteria carina

Arguably one of the better Italian restaurants I've ever eaten outside of Italy. Nice furnished, with a set menu including a lot of very good antipasti, primi, secondo and dolce, I just walked into this restaurant not knowing it was such a good place. Talked to the Italian owner (Fabio). Apparently he previously was a chef in another great (Michelin star) restaurant in CPH.

Highly recommended. Price range between 400 and 700 DKK per person (depending on the wine--it's a set menu, so there's not much variance in the price of the food)

Update on the use of international credit cards in Danish supermarkets:

Mastercard and VISA can be used in Kvickly, Kvickly xtra, SuperBrugsen, Dagli'Brugsen, LokalBrugsen, Irma, Fakta, and SuperBest.

SuperBest also accepts Maestro, American Express, V PAY, JCB, and China UnionPay.

For the use of MasterCard, Maestro, Visa, Visa Electron, V PAY, JCB, and China UnionPay use this store locator: http://preview.tinyurl.com/cvuyfd (I've set it for consumer goods in Copenhagen)

But, in Netto, Lidl, and Rema1000 you still need a Dankort...

    Bryggery Skovlyst Skovlystvej 2

Brewery and restaurant. According to my companion I we were lucky with the day menu, but it was truly excellent and the beers are surprisingly good too. This is definitely a good place to go if you're near Ballerup. Otherwise I would say that it is worth the trip to see this place, to get out of the city a bit. It is kind of remote though, so you'll have to take a train and a taxi. Not something you stumble upon when exploring Copenhagen.

Best sushi in Copenhagen: Fifty Fifty in Vesterbro. Sit at the bar and let Malene do the magic!

Best smørrebrød in Denmark is either Aamanns in Øster Farigmagsgade: www.aamanns.dk (more modern style but AMAZING smørrebrød) or Slotskælderen hos Gitte Kik at Fortunstræde 4 which is more classic but still great!

For drinks go to Ruby Bar at Nybrogade 10 st. which is a bit tricky to find (no signs) but so worth it. An old apartment made in to a cocktail bar with a small cosy courtyard for smokers.

If you a north of Copenhagen go to Skovshoved Hotel which has both a great upscale restaurant and a pub that serves great traditional Danish food.

If you are looking for a typical Danish lunch - go no where else, they have it. While touring Denmark, i wanted to be able to taste local specialties. I came to this place with a Danish friend and we had a danish dish. It's a plate with fish, meat and it's served with 2 kinds of bread. You put the food on the bread and eat. It's simply delicious.

Small (20 places) but fantastic restaurant run that offers a different menu every day, with very reasonable prices for 3, 4 or 5 courses, with an perfectly matched optional wine menu. The intimate atmosphere is topped by immaculate and friendly service from both the chef and his wife. It was the most memorable of my gourmet dining experiences in Copenhagen.
