From the end of November until December 23rd, the best local market is the Christmas market, or Weihnachtsmarkt. The one on Neupfarrplatz is large and pretty standard; on Haidplatz and Alter Kornmarkt, they have what they call the Lucrezia Markt. It's run by local artisans, selling all manner of crafts and art (handmade soaps, pottery, sculpture, etc.). Pick up a mug of Glühwein and browse for a while.
