Sophien Straße off of Rosenthaler Straße. Beautiful little side-street. There's a building that once housed an Association of Handworkers, which has a beautiful, brick facade. Many beautiful old houses along this street.

Currywurst. Berliners are serious about sliced up sausages with curried ketchup.

You can not leave Berlin without trying one or several.

A spacious Mexican restaurant at the heart of Berlin. Tourist attractions like Jewish Memorial, Potsdamer Platz and Brandenburg Gates are only minutes away on feet. It can accommodate large group of people and be a great meeting place. The food is good and the price is reasonable.

" Exhibition The interactive exhibition THE STORY OF BERLIN enables you to experience the development of the city from its beginnings to today in 23 theme rooms, equipped with up-to-date animation technology and walk through sets. The museum is more than just an exhibition - it is an exciting journey through 800 years of Berlin history. Instead of the mere display of dates and facts about historical personalities, the priority is given to the Berliners and their lifestyle at certain points in history. Part of your visit to the exhibition is a guided tour through an original nuclear bomb shelter underneath the busy street Kurfürstendamm. " (website text storyofberlin.de

Wonderful Crêperie Restaurant (Crêpes = thin pancakes either sweet or salty) in the "Graefekiez", Kreuzberg. Beautiful interior with cute details. Makes you feel at home. Strange (french, slow) service, good Crêpes and Galettes Live music occasionally, mostly on mondays and fridays.

Cost-/ Performance ratio: **** out of five

This is pure Hansel and Gretel. A neo-Gothic hunting lodge in the middle of Grunewald Park. Magical on crisp winters days and draws its fair share of eccentrics in the evenings. There's also a hotel, but you're better off staying at the nearby Schlosshotel Im Grunewald.

One of the most special places in Berlin, a proper dance hall preserved from decades ago. One night it's tango, another it's swing. You can dance, or just grab a table and enjoy the schnitzel and drinks and soak in the atmosphere. There are also tables outside to cool off in the summer.

Fun, self-serve Italian. Pick up a plastic card as you walk in. Everytime you order from the salad-pasta-pizza-bar counters the staff swipe the card and the charge is added on. Present the card to pay when you leave. Three of us shared a salad, two pizzas, a calzone, beer and a bottle of rose for 42 €, so great value. Good cooking overall; tasty, but the quality of ingredients could be a tad better.

Best curry wurst we tasted in Berlin. They take a little more time with the sauce. Regular will set you back 3.50 €, about par. Fries are very good. They also offer bison & ostrich sausuage in addition to standard weissewurst, but the latter is best with the curry treatment.

Very stylish, brand new Hotel in a conveniently located neighborhood. Incredibly good value, as the rates are surprisingly cheap. Only minor downside is the mini-bar prices, which even by mini-bar standards are quite outrageous (although you do get to drink exquisite Japanese mountain source water if you desire). Very friendly and competent staff, too.
