    The Mandala

The Mandala is located near the Potsdamer Platz, right in front of the Sony Center. You feel right at home and its the best place for relaxing after a busy day in Berlin.

Hidden Gem of a Hostel that is more like a Hotel

Ostel DDR near Ostbanhof station ( 2 stops west of Alexanderplatz station). Very close to Mitte district and cheap. Rooms are large for continental European standard and are all themed on the old East Berlin '70s feel. Very quiet and charming. Free WiFi. I'll be staying there again for my second trip to Berlin. Absolute steal of a place for the price and proximity.

There is absolutely only one place to stay in style:

    Hotel de Rome, Bebelplatz

Impeccable design/personnel/facilities, a great bar, good location especially for the museumsinsel and everything Mitte; not too big. The best hotel stay I've had in Europe so far!

Brandenburger Hof – it's like a clockwork operation. Great staff. Great rooms. Secluded location. Any drawbacks? Maybe the atmosphere is a little on the stiffer side, as a hotel like this will attract a certain clientele. Recommended anyway! More here: http://www.guidebook.se/?p=485

Last summer we rented a flat: location was absolutely perfect! WinterfeldtBerlinApartments (at Jaegerstrasse 24, Berlin-Mitte), it was only 660€ when 2 of us stayed for 6 nights and 2 of us 3 nights. Really nice place, well equipped. For example: they had this Opera-week & we had nice free conserts ;)

If you're on a budget, the Backpacker hostels are really quite decent -- I've stayed at the Sunflower Hostel recently and enjoyed my stay; although I was in a multi-person room with friends, I saw that there were two-person rooms (with a double bed) so a couple could have a Berlin visit very cheaply, I think.

Hi! We stayed at the New Berlin Hotel. (http://www.hotel-new-berlin.de/site/alias__newberlin/Lang__en-US/0/default.aspx) It was very comfortable, the receptionist was very nice to us, and the restaurant "Da Vinci", (which is in the hotel) was amazing. We had a great dinner there and it wasn't expensive.

Great apartment hotel near Rosa Luxembourg-metro station. Modern, almost Scandinavian decor, free internet, supermarket next door, rental bikes, lobby restaurant that serves Bfast and other meals, sunny backyard patio, airport transportation and ever so helpful staff. Mainly populated by Dutch and Spaniards, it seemed.

If you get a chance to ask for a room above the 30th floor, with "mid-teens" numbers (like 3x13, 3x14 ... 3x16) you get a phenomenal view of the nearby TV Tower.

Having just come from there, I can thoroughly recommend the Circus Hostel (opposite the hotel run by the same people) - its cheap, does a simple all you can eat breakfast in the attached cafe in the morning, the staff are friendly and the people are interesting.

Its also very central, and stupidly easy to get to especially if you land at Tegal.

It's very popular, so its a very good idea to book.

Great design hotel, roomily and relaxing studios, rambling bathrooms, comfortable couch and bed, kitchenette. The breakfast is a blast: nice, quiet, beautiful — and of course, delicious. Good spa and sports section, too. Everything's quite beautiful, exept the fassade but you wanna be inside anyway.

Soho House Berlin is, unlike the other hotels in the Soho House group, a quite visible place. The building, a former department store (plus more), is large, with a rooftop bar and pool area, an entire floor for club members, a 40-room hotel, a spa and soon an Italian restaurant (Cecconi's).

The X-Large rooms are quite... enormous. You'll find my images from such a room here: http://www.guidebook.se/?p=868

Schall und Rauch is a cafe, bar, restaurant, and hotel/pension located in Prenzlauer Berg, a section of the city that was part of former East-Germany, now a trendsetting neighborhood with many restaurants, and bars. It isn't a large fancy hotel with a lot of amenities but it does have a sort of charm of its own.

It is well located, 3 blocks from the U-Bahn and S-Bahn, not far from Alexanderplatz with easy access to the Mitte and central train station.

The staff is quite friendly and the rooms are simple but neat and clean. You won't have any problem getting some help in English if you don't speak any German although the bistro like cafe and bar are popular with the local crowd. They only have a few guest rooms located on the floors above the restaurant but the area is quiet at night.

I've stayed here on two separate occasions and I would recommend it and return myself.
