Adeola Ogunwole replied over 5 years agoHidden Gem of a Hostel that is more like a Hotel
Ostel DDR near Ostbanhof station ( 2 stops west of Alexanderplatz station). Very close to Mitte district and cheap. Rooms are large for continental European standard and are all themed on the old East Berlin '70s feel. Very quiet and charming. Free WiFi. I'll be staying there again for my second trip to Berlin. Absolute steal of a place for the price and proximity.

Hotel de Rome, Bebelplatz
Impeccable design/personnel/facilities, a great bar, good location especially for the museumsinsel and everything Mitte; not too big. The best hotel stay I've had in Europe so far!

Maybe the atmosphere is a little on the stiffer side, as a hotel like this will attract a certain clientele. Recommended anyway! More here: http://www.guidebook.se/?p=485

Rose White replied over 3 years agoIf you're on a budget, the Backpacker hostels are really quite decent -- I've stayed at the Sunflower Hostel recently and enjoyed my stay; although I was in a multi-person room with friends, I saw that there were two-person rooms (with a double bed) so a couple could have a Berlin visit very cheaply, I think.

Esther Amor replied over 3 years agoHi! We stayed at the New Berlin Hotel. (http://www.hotel-new-berlin.de/site/alias__newberlin/Lang__en-US/0/default.aspx) It was very comfortable, the receptionist was very nice to us, and the restaurant "Da Vinci", (which is in the hotel) was amazing. We had a great dinner there and it wasn't expensive.

Marcus Povey replied over 2 years agoHaving just come from there, I can thoroughly recommend the Circus Hostel (opposite the hotel run by the same people) - its cheap, does a simple all you can eat breakfast in the attached cafe in the morning, the staff are friendly and the people are interesting.
Its also very central, and stupidly easy to get to especially if you land at Tegal.
It's very popular, so its a very good idea to book.

Hakan Nyberg replied over 2 years agoSoho House Berlin is, unlike the other hotels in the Soho House group, a quite visible place. The building, a former department store (plus more), is large, with a rooftop bar and pool area, an entire floor for club members, a 40-room hotel, a spa and soon an Italian restaurant (Cecconi's).
The X-Large rooms are quite... enormous. You'll find my images from such a room here: http://www.guidebook.se/?p=868

Chip Rines replied over 2 years agoSchall und Rauch is a cafe, bar, restaurant, and hotel/pension located in Prenzlauer Berg, a section of the city that was part of former East-Germany, now a trendsetting neighborhood with many restaurants, and bars. It isn't a large fancy hotel with a lot of amenities but it does have a sort of charm of its own.
It is well located, 3 blocks from the U-Bahn and S-Bahn, not far from Alexanderplatz with easy access to the Mitte and central train station.
The staff is quite friendly and the rooms are simple but neat and clean. You won't have any problem getting some help in English if you don't speak any German although the bistro like cafe and bar are popular with the local crowd. They only have a few guest rooms located on the floors above the restaurant but the area is quiet at night.
I've stayed here on two separate occasions and I would recommend it and return myself.
