  Any person visiting Xiamen for a large amount of time must make at least one trip to Gulangyu. Accessibly only by ferry, 'Piano Island' is renowned throughout China for both its natural and architectural beauty. Make a trip to the piano museum, wander around the old British villas, climb to the top of Sunshine Rock, spend some time in the bird sanctuary, or watch the short film on Gulangyu's many attractions. These are just a few of the literally dozens of once-in-a-lifetime opportunities on this small island. Worth at least a single day trip, or more if you can spare them.
