    transport within the city

take the subway if you can, it's a lot easier, safer, and there's air conditioning on the train. you can get a travel card, similar to Hong Kong(and a lot easier) or plastic tokens, which you swipe to get on and deposit on the way out.

if you're going to use taxis, make sure you have your addresses written in simplified Chinese, and you have a contact phone number for when your taxi driver gets lost(the city is changing so rapidly, that where there were once no roads, there are now)

if staying at a hotel, take the card for the hotel, and keep on you at all times, so that someone can take you back.

I really like the OCT area of Shenzhen, especially the Emoi store (Muji but better) and the Starbucks which is much more relaxed than other branches. You also need to go and visit the Shanzhai market place which is very impressive.

It is one part of the "Overseas chinese town(OCT)", OCT consists of “Splendid China”, “Chinese Folk Culture Village”. “Window of the World” and “Happy Valley”, an area highly integrats the traditional Chinese culture with the World cultural essences.
