Great hotel with an amazing pool. Decent rates if you avoid the in-house restaurants/food.

Enjoyed a 2-night stay in Dec 2009. Nicely renovated Hutong in an area with lots of boutiques, small eateries and close to the Qianhai Lake. Not quite up to par for a business trip when you need high-efficiency (for example, the WiFi kept cutting out, the location is not obvious to cabbies, though it is actually quite convenient), but definitely lots of charme and character. Staff likewise not terribly professional, but friendly and they try hard. Recommend the airport pick-up to avoid confusion on arrival. Overall, a pleasant small adventure with lots of character.

A good hotel reasonably priced (sub $100 per night) in central Beijing walking distance to Wangfujing shopping district, and past there a bit of a walk to Forbidden Palace and Tian'anmen Square.

Staff all speak English well, and no trouble discussing advice for trips, or discussing how to solve problems.

Forget about Beijing's usual tourist trappy places. Stay in an an eco village at the foot of the Mutianyu Great Wall. Amazing views and homegrown food. Awesome!

When we stayed we found the room good and the staff very helpful. Cheaper rates can be had nearby especially if you're willing to go down in convenience but there are reasons why you don't want to do that. First, Sanlitun, the bar & restaurant mecca of Beijing is located within walking distance away. Second, the area around the hostel is actually not bad itself. localnoodles.com, a local foodie website did an article on how the area around the stadium (where the hostel is located) has grown into one of Beijing's entertainment areas. The article can be found at http://www.localnoodles.com/update/35/Beijing/Workers-Stadium-Gongti-New-Bar-street-Nighlife-Restaurants.html At the north gate of the stadium there is also a fabulous clean and english speaking place to get a massage called "Bodhi".

Although this isn't the cheapest hostel in town, it definately has it's perks.
