Very tasty, very friendly. Located 10 minutes away from the zurich main station its the perfect spot for having a tasty lunch with organic beer or a vast variety of fresh juices.

Coffee

The coffee in Zürich is good almost everywhere. Cafe Creme or espresso would make good suggestions.

Zürich condensed

Sprüngli on Paradeplatz is a quick introduction to Zürich. Go there for coffee, brekafeast, hot chocolate or cakes. Very Swiss, always intriguingly Zürichesque.

yummy eats in a lovely modern setting, golosone offers typical italian fare of the pugliese area. nothing out of the ordinary but everything tasty and well put together. realy nice staff - attentive, even when the place was completely full.

Pan-Asian Cuisine: Nooba restaurant in Kreuzplatz

I was taken to this place a few months ago by a colleague at work, and has since then become one of my favourite restaurants in Zurich. Nooba is a pan-Asian restaurant with a mix of Singaporean, Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese dishes, and (for Switzerland) it is reasonably priced. This is a popular place, and it tends to get full by 8:00pm - go early, any time from 5:00pm, for standby seating, or be sure to make a reservation. Otherwise, you may have to wait in line for a table.

Coffee and Cakes in Downtown Zurich: CakeFriends

A favourite hangout of mine for a coffee and one of their endless selection of cakes and fruit tarts. The coffee shop has a very modern design but extremely well put together. The coffee is great but the cakes are to die for. Downside of it - extremely popular on weekends - you will be lucky to get a seat in the place, but if you can't get a seat or a table, you can always take away - unlike most places in Switzerland, they are prepared (packaging and bags) for take away cakes and coffee.

The very best bratwurst, it called St. Gallen Bratwurst, with hot but taste mustard and the very best is the bagel "bürli" which is just great. It is open up until midnight which is good because of its qulity you always have long queues at lunch time ;) Give it a try, very good quality for snack food for a resonale price

A sushi place with an authentic twist: You get to choose your meals from a magnetized conveyor belt that goes around the (japanese!) sushi chefs working in the middle of the restaurant. Not too pricey, either: We usually pay about CHF 80.- for two people, and we leave absolutely stuffed.

So if you're into authentic sushi and you're in Zurich, don't miss Yooji's. Check their website, they have another restaurant on the other side of town.

Tunisian restaurant. Fantastic atmosphere (if you like middle-eastern music), meals to die for, and tasty wines and beer from Tunisia.

Easy to reach, too, as they have a tram stop nearby (take the no. 13 going to "Frankental" from the main station, get off at the station "Waidfussweg").

An amazing huge beer hall where they serve meat on swords. Huge portions of rich foods like fried fish, cheesy pasta, and the aforementioned meat on a sword.

This place has the best 'Gipfeli' (Croissants) in Zürich. They are homemade and freshly baked. Order the 'Zmorge' (Breakfast) and you won't be disappointed.

if you want to have special and nice swiss food, go to the Volkshaus. Even though it is not the cheapest restaurant in town, it is delicous and has great CH-meat menues..

italian food: Donleone www.donleone.ch is great!

portugese food: Restaurant Tapas, Haldenbachstrasse 3 (close to the university) is absolutely great, and a MUST..

vegetarian: Hiltl (close to jelmoli / globus) is great!

Brunch: my favourite places are Maison blunt (marrocane breakfast) www.maison-blunt.ch and the Bohemia near Kreutzplatz (www.bohemia.ch)

Mexican food.

I can recommend the Kao Soi (noodle soup after 6 pm).

Best hot italian sandwiches in town

Nice mediterranean food with thrift shop atmosphere and lovely service personnel.

The chicken wings and potato wedges are to die for. It is truly worth the one hour trip from Bern!

One of the best Asian restaurants in Switzerland

The Angel Wine Tower has a pretty interesting gimmick. :-) Go figure!

Cute bar overlooking the river, great for a drink and a quick bite.

Great for an expresso after walking through the city or a beer in the early evening. Most likely the worst place to eat at in the area.
