Depends on what kind of food you like, and what budget!

The Observatory offers sweeping views of the city from atop a local mountain (Grouse Mountain). The Keg (multiple locations) gives good value for money on steaks and prime rib. Sushi places and Chinese food abound! C specializes in seafood (Western style), and sits across from Granville Island so you can enjoy the view as you eat the pricey cuisine.

There are tons of great restaraunt in Vancouver. Places to start looking are 4th Ave in Kitsilano, Demnan Street or Yale Town. Or just try the sushi....all you can eat!!!

If you're arriving from a late or early flight and everything's closed, there's always #9 Restaurant at Lansdowne Center, which is pretty close to the Airport. They are open 24 hours and serve mostly Chinese food, although there are always western options.

Possibly something that specializes in Westcoast cuisine. Try restaurants like C Restaurant, Dockside, the Cannery, etc. Or if you are travelling to Whistler, maybe try Araxi Restaurant & Bar that was featured on Hell's Kitchen.

It totally depends on your budget and preferences, but local specialties are seafood, Chinese, Pacific Northwest, everything

Raincity Grill is great for local '100 Mile Diet' stuff though, if you really want to check it out. Pricey though, but you get what you pay for - in a good way.

I like Rodney's Oyster House as a funky way to introduce my out-of-town friends to Vancity. Also recommended is anything along the Robson strip (ie: CinCin, Tropika) or the Denman/Davie West End area (incl. Kintaro). If you do hit up Kintaro, try their cheese ramen. Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but man up and try it - you won't regret it.
