If you are looking for a cozy, friendly place, try Benez. You will feel comfortable there with a friendly welcoming atmosphere.

I recommend the ema datse at Musk Restaurant at Clock Tower Square. Ama Restaurant on Norzin Lam just north of the traffic circle is also quite good but slightly more expensive and better for groups. For very cheap, quick home-style eats, try UM's Cafe located in the centre of the Zangto Pelri complex. I love their cheese momos and vegetable noodle soup. The small Zhidhay Restautant on the second floor of the building across from near Changankha Lakhang has fantastic beef shabalay (like beef patties) which aren't greasy at all. There is not a huge range of variety of cuisines in Thimphu.
