Well, as I live in São Paulo, I prefere not to suggest hotels, but areas in the city. My prefered region (and one of the best areas to stay) is around Avenida Paulista (Paulista Avenue). There is a region with several good restaurants, bars, clubs, cinemas, etc. Try neighborhoods like Cerqueira César, Jardins, Higienópolis, Pacaembu and Consolação.

I agree with Mauricio Alcantara. I stayed at the L'Hotel off of Avenida Paulista .... 5 star hotel that was absolutely a home away from home. Very pricey but well worth the money. Menu is limited at the hotel's resturant but there are so many resturants in the neighborhood you will not go hungry.
