    Museum of the Republic

The building itself, The Catete Palace, is quite stunning. To get the most out of the exhibits, you need to understand Portuguese, or take a translator. It normally costs R$6 to get in, but it was free, the day I went, I don't know why.

imo, one of the most beautiful places i've ever been. you could easily spend a day there. take advantage of the tour guides. their environmental studies students, many of which speak english, and can show you some hidden gems and info in the park

That´s a must for tasting the Brazilian Northeastern cuisine at the heart of Rio. There are restaurants for all tastes, shops where you can buy souvenirs and some typical foods and drinks, nice cachaça stores, and if you want to learn how to dance forró, here´s the place!

What can I say? It´s a pity that it will be closed for reforms until 2011. Watching a football game here is a lifetime experience.
