Melbourne is the shopping capital of Australia. It really depends what sort of shopping you want to do!

Bourke Street, Richmond is the place to go for all the seconds and factory outlet stores.

Chapel Street, Praharn for the trendy fashion.

Victoria Markets is a mixture of several markets, a junky tourist one, and high quality food markets with Cheeses, Seafood, Meat, Fruits and Vegetables.

South Melbourne Markets is a smaller, family friendly, market that doesn't get much of the tourist trade.

The Paris End of Collins St (up the hill from Swanston St towards the Treasury Building) is the expensive part of town with the most expensive brands.

The Preston markets are more multi-cutural and a very busy local market with lots of food as well as other general market rubbish.

On the weekends, the St Kida Esplanade market is a great way to spend an hour or two if the weather is good.

that's a great list, you might also like Brunswick St and Gertrude St's Fitzroy for some local design, and Sydney Road Brunswick to Coburg for some Middle Eastern Adventure

The Arts Centre holds a great Sunday market with 140 stalls of original arts and crafts (a stall owner there once told me that only applicants that sell original wares will be considered for a place). It's located on the Undercroft (under the bridge just beneath Hamer Hall), 10am-5pm every Sunday.

If you're into finding a few vintage and one-off items (particularly clothes), try the Sunday market in the suburb of Camberwell.

This tip has the address "Station Street, Camberwell, victoria"

The Preston Market is an excellent source for fresh foods: meat, fish, deli things, bread, cakes, biscuits, fruits, vegetables. Lots of stalls to sell you dinner on a Friday night or lunch while the market is open (Wednesday - Saturday). There are a number of associated stores selling dried, canned or otherwise preserved products and a whole array of non-food shops selling everything from electrical to clothes to pets. To explore a little further, head through any of the many stores that have walk throughs to High Street and check that out as well.

Next to the Preston train station, bus stops on Murray road, and decent enough parking (except for Saturday mornings),
