Just go along Johnson St. and there are plenty of backpackers travel agencies. Just go inside any of them and they will let you use the internet on their computers for some time in exchange of trying to sell you some kind of trip. There is also some free wifi at the Beach Hotel. Just ask for a beer and tell them you want to use the internet and they'll give you the password.

Anyway, in general, I noticed the internet connection at Byron was rather slow and with big latency... even when paying for it. So good luck.
